Why Must I Be A Man In A Suitcase

Okay, I’ve been a bit negligent these last couple of days. Busy busy busy.

First, I have four paintings I have been meaning to get to work on. Actually, Five, but I’m not sure if I’ll be restarting the big one, since the initial pass at that is less than satisfactory, and I’m trying to decide if I want to just paint over or start a new canvas and use the old one for reference (before painting over it when the new painting is done; hmmn. Think I answered my own question there).

Second, Dawn’s bike is back in service, so she’ll be going back to tripping around town unescorted, and I’ll have time to get back to work on stuff.

Third, I have music percolating. No promises yet. Something old, something new, something borrowed, and maybe, just maybe, some blues. But seriously, don’t count on it.

Because fourth, I’m writing again. I know, I’ve said that for weeks, but it’s really happening now, so shut up already. ;)

At the moment, I’m trying to finish up THE APPROXIMATE DISTANCE TO LIMBO.
Then I’m diving back into THE GOOD GIRL (you see what I did there?). Then I’m hoping to get back to work on DEPARTURE. And somewhere in the midst of all that I’m tinkering with LINKTALES VOLUME TWO and a new collection of short non-Link fiction, called CUSTOMS AND ROAD SONGS OF LIMBO. But sometime before the end of the year, and (perhaps for NaNoWriMo) I’ll be starting PERPETUAL TUESDAY. I’ll be putting up a proper page for that soonish, but I won’t be starting it properly for a while, in any case. I have a kind of format sorted out, and suggestions to get me going, but the story remains gloriously mysterious, and so I can’t write a synopsis for it yet. All I know is it features Andy and Kara and Naomi and of course Richard and the gang, and there will be some Scheherazade-type things going on. So, different, but in so many ways, more of the same. Only different. And hopefully better. Always forward, folks.

Two or three projects keep burbling to the surface for me that haven’t been getting the love: The Art of Words/Project: Big Beautiful You, Dreamtropolis Fallen, and Surreyal, the virtual 70s Banksian/Phillipian/Brufordesque prog internet band I’m part of. I’m actually part of two such internet projects, both featuring Kristine Fleckenstein, but Photo: Synthesis is more her thing than ours, and I’m having trouble working on a certain P:S song that needs an overhaul before I can put guitars on it.

The problem with Surreyal is, I need to program some drum sequences to straighten up my many guitar parts and pieces (do you see what I did there?), and then get Krissy to replay her keyboard parts over top and finally get her drummer friend to replace the drum machine with real and hopefully gutsy live drum performances.

The trick with Dreamtropolis Fallen and The Art of Words is, I need time not just to write but to draw them, and in the case of at least tAoW, as an interactive graphic novel. Somehow, I don’t see that happening this year, unless I put some of these novels and short story collections aside and focus on comics for a bit. We’ll see how I feel after DISTANCE is finished.

So there you have it. The current revised To Do List of the Lord of Limbo, for better or for worse. Any thoughts?

Thank you for reading.

Lee.

flattr this!
